On Tuesday morning, there is a yellow danger warning for ice in Trøndelag, due to freezing rain on the ground or freezing rain. Traffic officer at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Per Slåttsveen, says the contractors are out and hard at work.
– There is still relatively little traffic, we had no incidents other than a lorry train on Hitra which was unfortunate. But there can be rough driving conditions and the contractors are out and about at full speed, he told Dagbladet early on Tuesday.
Expect it to be smoother
One lane is closed in the Leirvågen area on Hitra due to a traffic accident and the train has to be towed, Vegtrafikksentralen wrote on Twitter in the morning hours.
Contractors prevent in the form of salting and shedding, as well as performing attrition measurements.
– For now, the measurements confirm that there are smooth roads. When we have cold ground combined with positive temperatures and precipitation, we expect it to be more regular, says the traffic operator.
The appeal to Tuesday’s travelers is clear: give yourself plenty of time, keep your distance, drive sensibly and carefully.
TikTok “bomb”: – Incomprehensible
E6 closed
Traffic in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark is also affected by the winter weather.
– There were some busy days with difficult weather conditions, with wind and snowdrifts in several places, says traffic operator from Vegtrafikksentralen north Jannike Sandstrak to Dagbladet.
He says the weather has become milder in some places and that this is again causing difficult driving conditions.
– On the coast, we’ve received some reports of slippery roads. Inside, there’s more of a snowpack problem.
Sandstrak says the E6 north of Mosjøen is closed due to bad weather.
– The road is closed from around 06:00. There is poor visibility and jagged snow.
There is the possibility of a detour. The traffic operator says that it is continuously being evaluated whether it is possible to run in columns.
In Helgeland and in Sør-Salten there is a yellow ice warning.
– The danger begins further south, beyond Tuesday even further north, writes the Meteorological Institute in Yr.no.
Notice applies from 11am Tuesday to 3pm Wednesday.
Warn motorists
On Tuesday morning, there’s a yellow cargo alert for ice all over the outback. There will also be challenging driving conditions at Follo and Østfold.
– We have lighted signs where we warn motorists that the rain is freezing to the ground. We have received special feedback that it should be regular in Follo and Østfold: the contractors have been there several times and salted, but it is still regular, says Tilia Matre, traffic operator at Vegtrafikksentralen Øst.
– It’s going to be a hell of a massacre
It asks all motorists to be careful on the roads and to keep their distance.
– Remember that the permitted speed applies in optimal conditions. Now that’s suboptimal, he points out.
Apart from an accident on National Highway 3 last night, the Swedish Traffic Agency has not received any specific accident reports.
– As long as people drive safely, regulate their speed and have a good overview of the traffic picture, it should be fine, says Matre.
In Halden, school transportation was canceled on Tuesday, the municipality says on its website. The reason is that the road conditions must have been very difficult.
Queue at E6
There was a traffic accident on the E6 near Berger, heading towards Oslo.
– Traffic accident between a truck and two cars. No injuries have been reported so far, the police wrote on Twitter.
There will be queues, they say.
Emergency services are arriving at the scene.
At 07.40 the carabinieri declare that the cars have been recovered and the road is open.
– No injuries.
Roaming cars outside
In Trøndelag and Møre and Romsdal, the Road Traffic Center has received several reports that the roads are slippery, but there were no severe and serious traffic accidents in the region on Tuesday.
– We have stray cars all over the region, says Linn Nilsen, traffic operator at Vegtrafikksentralen in the middle of Dagbladet.
