Traffic Advisory: Weekend Closures and Detours on the Brooklyn Queens Expy

The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) is strongly asking drivers who usually drive on the Brooklyn Queens Expy (BQE, as many know it) to avoid driving on this area on the weekend. This is because the BQE bound for Queens will be completely closed from Atlantic Avenue until Sands Street from Saturday, October 14 at 2:00 a.m. until Monday, October 16 at 4:00 a.m. due to repair work. During the same period, the Staten Island-bound BQE will be reduced to one lane of traffic between Sands Street y Atlantic Avenue.

New York — The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) strongly urges drivers who usually travel on the Brooklyn Queens Expy (BQE, as many know it) to Avoid driving through this area on the weekend.

This is because the BQE bound for Queens will be completely closed from Atlantic Avenue until Sands Street from Saturday, October 14 at 2:00 am until Monday, October 16 at 4:00 am due to repair work.

During the same period, the Staten Island-bound BQE will be reduced to one lane of traffic between Sands Street y Atlantic Avenue.

DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodríguez made the announcement in late September highlighting closures due to necessary repair and replacement work on the freeway, including full closures between the Atlantic Avenue on-ramp and the Manhattan Bridge off-ramp. heading to Queens. There will also be partial lane closures at the same time heading toward Staten Island.

The repairs focus on new concrete and reinforcing steel bars that are being added to sections of the BQE near Clark Street and Grace Court as part of the short-term work critical to continuing the life of the structure.

“We are making critical repairs to the BQE to preserve its useful life while trying to minimize the impact on the local community,” said New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodríguez.

Additional travel restrictions

It is prohibited to turn left on Atlantic Avenue heading east towards Hicks Street (except for buses). It is prohibited to turn left on Atlantic Avenue heading east towards Clinton Street (except for buses). Bus stops B67 and B69 in Pearl y Sands Street They will be closed. Bus stops B61 and B63 in Columbia Street y Atlantic Avenue will be redirected to Atlantic y Henry Street and diverted through Congress Street y Hicks Street until Atlantic Avenue.
