Traffic accident in Trinidad leaves dozens of Russian and French tourists hospitalized

At least ten Russian and French tourists are hospitalized in Cuba, after a traffic accident in Trinidad, after an excursion in a Transgaviota, which moved them from that town in the Spirit to Cienfuegos where they were staying on their tourist trip to the island.

According to reports from press locals, three other Cuban passengers also receive medical care for injuries at the main Hospital of Sancti Spíritus. The incident occurred on the afternoon of this March 31 in the so-called “southern circuit” that covers the route between Trinidad and Cienfuegos.

Three people, two international tourists and one Cuban, were in “code red,” according to medical specialists. The Cuban was in worse condition, with head trauma and multiple fractures in his right arm, with a muscle tear and large vessel injuries. This man managed to be stabilized in the Trinidad hospital before being transferred to the main hospital.

The other two with more serious injuries were foreigners, one with a simple head injury, and the other with a significant bone-muscular tear in his left hand. The rest of the injured had minor injuries, without danger to life, they reported.

ACCIDENTS IN CUBA

Preliminary investigations revealed that the tourists were being transferred to Cienfuegos after a visit to Trinidad, and on the highway the driver lost control of the bus by avoiding a tanker truck and it overturned. They explain that the causes of the incident are still being investigated.

In Cuba, traffic accidents are a serious problem that affect society. The high number of vehicles on the roads, their poor condition, the lack of driver education and non-compliance with traffic regulations are some of the main causes of these accidents.

According to official statistics, in 2019, there were more than 9,000 traffic accidents on the island and more than 500 people lost their lives in these incidents in Cuba.
