Entrepreneur Dina Zuzāne has joined the board to promote the fund. The accession of the patron to the foundation will open new opportunities for the implementation of large-scale projects, including the start of providing scholarships to the representatives of Latvian academic music.
“I have always appreciated Andrejs Žagars’ work in the Latvian cultural space and, along with the whole society, I mourned his departure three years ago. . The entrepreneur wants to continue supporting the new talents of academic music by supplementing the activities of the foundation with a scholarship program. One of the goals of D. Zuzāne is to attract significant supporters to the fund in the future, currently inviting such well-known people and entrepreneurs as Valdis and Lilita Zatlers to join the circle of supporters, Signet Ineta Donee, Vice President of the Bank, as well as several Cēsis entrepreneurs. D. Zuzāne points out that it is important to form a wide circle of supporters, thus strengthening the values of the foundation and pointing out the importance of academic music in the whole society.
Andrejs Žagars founded the fund in 2016. Under his leadership, projects such as Letter to a man Wilson/Baryshnikov guest performances and Andris Nelson – led Leipzig Gewandhaus orchestra concerts in Riga, the Latvian National Opera, etc. After Andrejs Žagars passed away, his close colleagues, friends and like-minded people Normunds Matutis, Kristīne Pasternaka and Arturs Maskats continue to work at the foundation. In recent years, it has become a tradition to conduct opera gala concerts dedicated to Andrejs, in which listeners have had the opportunity to enjoy the performance of world-famous opera singers together with LNSO – Kristīne Opolais, Aleksandrs Antonenko, Egils Siliņš, Irēne Teorine, etc.
This year’s concert in Cēsis will take place on November 5, its artistic director will be the outstanding conductor Gintars Rinkēvičs, who together with Andrejs Žagars in the second half of the 1990s brought the Latvian National Opera into international circulation, ensuring a high level of musical performance. Their collaboration at R. Wagner’s opera A wandering Dutchman is one of the brightest productions of our opera at the turn of the century, has achieved outstanding success in many parts of the world.
