Traditional Roller Skating Comes to Rockefeller Center for the First Time Since 1940 – NBC New York (47)

Anyone up for skating at Rockefeller Center during the warmer season?

There is good news. For the first time since 1940, the Rockefeller Center rink brings roller skating the traditional way. The track opened on Friday April 15 and was transformed into the classic Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palacethe legendary Los Angeles cultural center of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The experience runs through October with weekly and seasonal programming including DJ sets, live music performances, kids and family programming, events in partnership with Rockefeller Center, a new Channel Gardens retail store and more. Flipper is being revived by the daughter of founder Ian “Flipper” Ross.

Admission prices start at $20 for adults and $12 for children under 15, not including skate rentals. Tickets are available here.

Office hours are from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Also on Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 am to midnight. Weekend hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. on Saturdays and 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Sundays.

The configuration is approximately half the size of the traditional ice rink, with space for the public to watch the skaters and plaza activity.

Tables, chairs and green spaces will transform the square into a meeting space, allowing the public to flow directly from The Rink to the shops and restaurants of Rockefeller Center.
