Traditional restaurant “Schröter’s” closed forever – the reasons

A gastronomic institution is leaving Bremen: after almost 30 years, the restaurant in the Schnoor district is closing – just two weeks later there is a successor.

“Over! Over! And over!”: With these words, the operators of the popular restaurant “Schröter’s Leib & Seele” in Bremen’s Schnoor district announced their farewell on social networks. The last meal was served in the traditional restaurant at the end of September, and the new owner took over on October 1st.

The family decided to “go different ways,” wrote boss Daniel Schröter in the post. And further: “We leave with a crying and a laughing eye and look back on the many years that are now behind us and look forward to the many years that are still to come!”

Not only was the restaurant abandoned, but the tents in the Schnoor district were completely demolished. This means: In addition to the restaurant, the family also sold all nine properties that they had previously owned in the historic area. This is what the “Weser Kurier” writes. The properties were sold to a Hamburg real estate company, according to the report.

Daniel Schröter, as he told the “Weser Kurier”, had increasingly lost his interest in cooking after the corona pandemic. That’s why he advertised some of the family’s properties back in the summer. Interested parties immediately contacted us and the final offer was so good that he didn’t want to miss it.

Just a few days after the end of “Schröter’s Leib & Seele”, the head of the new restaurant “Levante”, Walid Abu-Dib, took over. He has been serving oriental or Syrian cuisine since October 1st and has set himself the goal of passing on the cuisine of his homeland “with hospitality and a modern flair.” It offers guests “not only a culinary experience, but also a small insight into a rich and deeply rooted culture,” says the restaurant’s website.
