Traditional restaurant in Oslo is closing down

Hard Rock Cafè in Oslo is closing down after 16 years. Karl-Henning Svendsen, operations manager at the restaurant, thinks this is an unpleasant day.

– It’s sad that Hard Rock is being shut down. Today is the last opportunity to buy the iconic Oslo T-shirt, he says Avisa Oslo.

He says that the restaurant has lost money since its inception in 2005.

– Our lease expires, and we have not agreed on further lease. It is simply a high rent in relation to our turnover, he says to the newspaper.

Around 75 people will lose their jobs, and Svendsen does not rule out Hard Rock Café returning to the capital.

– The Swedish owners have asked me to keep the islands open for suitable premises with reasonable rent. I think it may be possible in the future.
