Tradition: New York and the Thanksgiving Parade with a difference

Even the corona pandemic cannot stop a New York tradition:: At the annual Thanksgiving Parade in the US east coast metropolis, large balloons floated through Manhattan again this year.

However, the large crowds stayed away this year on the instructions of the organizers because of the corona crisis, TV pictures on Thursday only showed a few viewers at the roadside.

The program with dancers, bands and clowns was partially pre-recorded for television. The number of otherwise involved helpers was reduced by a large part. Instead of people, the huge helium balloons were pulled through the heart of the east coast metropolis by vehicles – this year it was Snoopy, Chase from the series “Paw Patrol” and Spongebob SquarePants.

It was the 94th Macy’s department store chain parade, which launched the spectacle as a promotion. Tens of millions of Americans watch it on television annually.
