Yesterday, the Observatorye of the Evolution of Insurance Professions, association
created by the French Insurance Federation (FFA), presented ROMA 2021, the 25th Report of theObservatory on Trades and Training for Insurance Employees, the main trends of which are:
In 2020, despite the exceptional nature of the health crisis, the branch’s workforce posted the strongest growth of the decade: + 1%, or 1,500 additional people.
There were 149,100 employees as of 12/31/2020. This positive development not only confirms the good resilience of employment in insurance but also the upward trend initiated since 2016. Unsurprisingly, turnover is down this year, going from 10.9% to 9.6%. The consequent increase in the number of employees can therefore be explained to a large extent by the maintenance of most of the recruitments initially planned.
Thus, after an equally exceptional year in 2019, hires in 2020 continue to be at a high level: 15,060 people were recruited, i.e. a renewal rate of 10.1%. As a result, the weight of those under 30 is increasing among new recruits, thus leading to a drop in the average age, but also on the part of executives. Regarding the level of diploma, the share of Bac + 2 and that of Bac + 5 seem to stabilize. Overall, the core insurance professions account for 67.8% of new recruits, slightly more than their overall representativeness (66.6%).
In terms of work-study programs, their share of recruitments is average for other years, ie a quarter of recruitments (24.9%). As anticipated last year, the breakdown of work-study students tilts sharply in favor of the apprenticeship contract in 2020. In the balance sheet for the year, the proportion of professionalization contracts has in fact become three times less than that of apprenticeship in recruitments (6.3% vs. 18.6%). Thanks to the proactive policy deployed by the insurance branch, the total number of work-study students still increases to reach 5,650 people, or 3.8% of the total workforce.
Certain trends already at work in recent years will not fail to be confirmed this year. Thus, the number of ≥55 years and at the same time that of <30 years continue to increase. These two age groups represent 18.4% and 14.2% of the total population respectively.
While the feminization of insurance seems to be slowing down (-0.1 point, or 60.7% of employees), the proportion of women among executives increased from 45.7% in 2010 to 51.4% in 2020. The catching up that we observe is moreover increasing according to the level of classification: +5.4 pts for class 5; +6.4 pts for class 6 and +7.1 pts for class 7. This increase is even more visible among executives: the proportion of women has gradually gone from a quarter to a third in space of a decade.
Among the 137,990 employees on permanent contracts at 12/31/2019, nearly 1 in 6 employees was mobile in 2020. More specifically, 8.6% left their company during the year and 7.1% left their company. changed jobs internally.
Teleworking, which already benefited 23.5% of insurance employees before the crisis, continues to grow exponentially: 53.1%. Excluding constrained periods, the average duration goes from 43 days to 75 days with, still, a more marked appetite among executives (62.2% telework on average 79.3 days versus 43% and 68.1 days for non-executives) . It should be noted that the relative importance of the commercial population, not very eligible for this modality of work organization, partly explains this finding.
Finally, 89.2% of employees benefited from at least one training course in 2020. The average duration, whose trend has been stable in recent years, has fallen to 22.4 hours (-8.1 hours ) … as can be seen in almost all professional branches due to the Covid crisis. In detail, however, 9 out of 10 employees trained as part of open and distance training (ODL), a teaching method one of the major specificities of which is to increase the effectiveness of the training action in a same time allotted. These thus constituted nearly half of the total hours provided during the year (48.3%).
