Alexander Georgiev was traded Thursday from the New York Rangers to the Colorado Avalanche for a third- and fifth-round pick in the 2022 Upper Deck NHL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.

The 26-year-old goalie can become a restricted free agent on July 13. In 33 games (28 starts) this season, he has a 15-10-2 record with a 2.92 goals-against average, an 89.8 save percentage and two shutouts.
The 2022 draft will take place on Thursday at the Bell Center (7 pm ET ET; ESPN, ESPN +, SN, TVAS). Rounds 2-7 take place on Friday (11 am ET; NHLN, ESPN +, SN, TVAS).
The trade leaves Rangers with six picks starting in the second round (#63). On March 21, they traded a pick with the Winnipeg Jets for forwards Andrew Copp, which became a first-round pick as New York advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals. Copp can become an unrestricted free agent.
The Avalanche don’t have a pick until the sixth round. They traded their first-round pick and defender on July 28, 2021 Conor Timmins to the Arizona Coyotes for goalie Darcy Kuemper and on October 12, 2020, a second-round pick to the New York Islanders for the defenseman Devon Toews.
Kuemper is an upcoming UFA. The 32-year-old had a 37-12-4 record in 57 regular-season games with a 2.54 GAA, a 92.1 save percentage and five shutouts, and a 10-4 record in 16 playoff games with a GAA of 2.57 and a catch rate of 90.2 percent.
Georgiev, who signed as a free agent from New York on July 19, 2017, has a 58-48-11 record with a 2.94 GAA, a 90.8 save percentage and eight shutouts in 129 games (117 starts ).
Goalie Pavel French signed a two-year deal with the Avalanche on March 12.
