The collective bargaining offer of employers in regional transport has lapsed. As a result, the negotiations have to start again.
This is a bid for the multimodal collective agreement, which includes regional transport companies that operate both buses and trains. Unions had until 5 p.m. on Monday to respond to the offer, but that did not happen, reports transport company Arriva.
Trade unions FNV and CNV have called on staff in regional transport to go on strike for five days. As a result, half of the buses did not run on Mondays. In the east of the country, Arriva and Keolis trains did not run in a number of regions.
This strike not only relates to the multimodal collective agreement, but also to the large regional transport collective agreement, which includes thirteen thousand employees. These are mainly bus drivers.
Both the collective labor agreement multimodal and the large collective labor agreement deal with the same problems. Due to the high inflation, employees in regional transport can hardly make ends meet. In addition, there is a staff shortage and high absenteeism, which has increased the workload.
Employers speak of ‘more than a reasonable proposal’
The offer for the multimodal collective agreement included an 11 percent wage increase. The employers would also expand a scheme that allows staff to retire earlier.
In the proposal, signed by the Association for Multimodal Employers, the employers speak of “a more than reasonable proposal”. “Employers go far because every strike day is one too many and causes unnecessary damage on multiple fronts.”
Arriva says through a spokesperson that it is expected to meet with employers next week to see “how we proceed”. “But it has already been indicated in the last collective bargaining agreement: this is just it, there is no more to it,” the spokesman said.
