Trade unionist Jan De Weghe of the Flemish socialist union BBTK confirms that the proposal will be submitted to the members. “We continued to negotiate, even though our three major demands were not met. The management added a premium for early retirees and a transition premium to the proposal, but that was not our request.”
In the management’s new proposal, employees who retire early from the age of 62 will receive an additional premium of 10,000 euros. “That sounds like a lot of money, but if you think about it, that’s 20 euros per month for a 40-year career,” says De Weghe.
