Trade union CNV says it has indications that many companies are putting employees on the street against the rules without severance pay, also known as the transition payment. According to the union, “thousands of people” have wrongly received no compensation. They are called upon to report, CNV announced on Thursday.
Since 1 January 2020, it is mandatory for employers to pay a severance payment, even to those who have only worked for a short time. That does not always go well, according to CNV. “Many employers seem to be running off the law. And they put people out on the street without giving a cent. People with a flex contract or on-call workers are particularly the victims,” said CNV chairman Piet Fortuin.
“We understand that many employers are in trouble, but the compensation for dismissal after short-term employment is a low amount for many employers. For the dismissed employees, however, it can give just that push to a new job: a short course, training or coaching ”, says Fortuin.
CNV calls on people who have not received a transition payment to register. If it turns out that there are several cases at a company, the union will start a lawsuit against that party. In addition, the union will call on the cabinet not to grant the relevant organization state aid from the NOW 3.0 package.
