WASHINGTON, Jan 19 (Reuters) – The United States and Britain are expected to announce on Wednesday the resumption of talks to scrap tariffs on British steel and aluminum, two sources familiar with the matter said. .
The announcement will come as part of a virtual meeting between US Trade Secretary Gina Raimondo and UK Secretary of State for International Trade Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the sources told Reuters.
However, no timetable or deadline for negotiations is expected to be announced, one of the sources said.
A spokesperson for the US Department of Commerce declined to comment. A spokesman for the British Embassy in Washington did not respond to a request for comment.
Introduced by former US President Donald Trump in 2018, duties on steel and aluminum imports from the European Union were lifted in November but remained in place for Britain due to its leaving the community block.
