Trade deadline: D’Angelo Russell joins Minnesota, Andrew Wiggins at Golden State – basketball – NBA

There was just under two hours left before the transfer market closed when this winter’s biggest trade happened (before others?). ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to make a trade that will send D’Angelo Russell to Minneapolis and Andrew Wiggins to San Francisco.

The full exchange sees the Warriors recovering Wiggins, a first-round draft pick (in 2021) and a second-round pick. The Timberwolves will welcome Russell (All-Star last year with Brooklyn) but also Jacob Evans and Omari Spellman.

Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns, the star player from Minnesota, are very close friends who have always had the desire to grow together at the highest level. They had been the number 1 and 2 picks in the 2015 draft. Now they are together probably until at least 2023 (when Russell’s current contract expires). The pressure is now on the Warriors who, with Wiggins, recover a disappointing player so far (number 1 in the 2014 draft) and who earns more than $ 30 million annually while their finances are already well underway by the trio Stephen Curry-Klay Thompson-Draymond Green.
