“Traction Control Systems: Different Designations for Different Brands | Auto Blitz”

Traction control systems may have different designations for different vehicle brands

Any car owner may find himself in situations where he needs to press the ESP OFF button.

What is ABS?

ABS is an anti-lock braking system. It was first introduced in 1970. Already in the mid-1970s, the BMW 7-series and Mercedes-Benz W116 cars offered the installation of ABS as a standard option.

ABS provides the car with additional safety when using the braking system. Before that, with a sharp press on the brake pedal, the wheels completely locked. Thanks to ABS, the wheels do not lock, but turn slightly. Thanks to this, the driver has the opportunity to control the car and even maneuver.

What is ESP?

A little later, the ESP system (from the English Electronic Stability Program) appeared – an electronic system for dynamic stabilization. The system functions thanks to the cooperation of electronic sensors that analyze data on speed, acceleration, steering angle. This automatically corrects the braking torque.

What is traction control?

TCS (Traction Control System) is a traction control or traction control system designed to prevent complete wheel slip when accelerating on low-grip roads.

TCS uses electronics to monitor engine activity and apply brakes to selected wheels to eliminate slippage and maximize tire traction.

In different vehicle brands, traction control systems may have different designations: ASR, ETC, A-TRAC or TCS.
