The repair work on the track at Voorschoten station will start this Wednesday. The track was severely damaged last week in an accident involving a rail crane, a freight train and a passenger train.
Trains are expected to run on the route again from next Tuesday. “We still have enough to do until next Tuesday morning,” says a ProRail spokesperson.
For example, the overhead lines must be replaced. The track itself is broken, the sleepers are damaged and safety systems may also need to be replaced.
It remains to be seen whether it will be possible to finish everything on time. “But we are committed to it,” emphasizes the spokesperson.
Intercity trainsets were removed on Tuesday
Two train sets of the intercity that partly ended up in a meadow due to the serious train accident, were taken to a nearby business park on Tuesday evening. Eventually they have to be taken to a warehouse in Amersfoort.
ProRail hopes to transport the two other parts of the intercity, which are still on track, to Amersfoort via The Hague Mariahoeve and Gouda stations in the night from Wednesday to Thursday. The freight train was already salvaged last week.
In the accident, a freight train collided with a rail crane belonging to construction company BAM. The crane driver was killed.
The collision caused fragments of the crane vehicle to end up on another track, causing a passenger train on that track to collide with it. Dozens of people were injured as a result.
