Colony

With the extension of the IC and ICE travel time up to 30 minutes • Stops canceled at several stations • Train stations can still be reached by local transport • From 12 to 20 December some cancellations at RE 2 Koblenz – Frankfurt am Less • Between 27 December and 31 December there will be a RE 2/RE 17 and RB 26 service as an alternative bus

Deutsche Bahn (DB) is continuously modernizing its infrastructure for reliable rail traffic. To keep the impact on passengers as low as possible, DB bundles work as much as possible and, above all, uses after-hours. Between 12 and 22 December, the specialists will renew tracks, bridges and technology on the Cologne – Mainz section. Work on the track between Boppard and Werlau will follow from 27 to 30 December. Due to these constructions, DB is rerouting the IC and ICE via alternative connections, which increases the journey time by around 30 minutes. At the same time, long-distance trains cannot stop at all stations. During this period, passengers can alternatively use local transport, which runs regularly from 12 to 20 December, with a few exceptions on the RE 2. From 27 to 31 December, the DB will use buses to replace the RE 2/RE 17 and the RB 26 in local transport between Mainz and Koblenz.

The following long-distance lines will not operate on their normal schedule during the construction works:

IC line Dortmund – Koblenz – Mannheim – Stuttgart – Lindau:
The DB diverts trains between Cologne and Mainz. As a result, the stops in Cologne, Bonn, Andernach, Remagen and Bingen can unfortunately not be reached. With the exception of Bingen, passengers will be able to use all stations as usual from 27 December to board and alight.

ICE line Hamburg – Bremen – Cologne – Mainz – Nuremberg – Passau And ICE line Dortmund – Koblenz – Frankfurt – Nuremberg – Vienna are also detoured, which is why a stopover in Bonn, Cologne, Remagen, Andernach, Boppard and Bingen is not possible. This also applies to most train stops in Mainz. Replacement stops are Cologne Messe/Deutz and Bonn-Beuel for most trains. From 27 December, trains will have an extension of the journey time of 30 minutes. Bingen and Boppard stops are omitted.

ICE line Wiesbaden – Frankfurt – Erfurt – Leipzig – Dresden: Most trains do not stop in Mainz.

IC line Dresden – Hanover – Dortmund – Mainz – Stuttgart: Trains between Cologne and Mainz take around 20 minutes longer via detours. The stops at Cologne, Bonn, Remagen and Andernach will be omitted, while the trains will stop at Cologne Messe/Deutz and Bonn-Beuel. From December 27, travelers will need to plan on an extra 30 minutes of travel time.

Further individual trains on the Koblenz – Mainz route will be routed to alternative routes with a journey time extension of 15 minutes and from 27 December 30 minutes.

In local traffic, between 12 and 22 December, DB will operate some trains RE 2 lines a, which means that the stops at Mainz-Roman Theater, Mainz-Bischofsheim, Rüsselsheim, Frankfurt (Main) Airport, Frankfurt Stadium and Frankfurt-Niederrad are cancelled. For these stops along the way, passengers can use the rest of the regional transport on the route, which continues to operate according to the timetable.

From 13 to 22 December, the RE 4266 between Mainz Hbf and Koblenz Hbf and from 17 to 18 December the RB 12946 will be discontinued. In the opposite direction, this affects RE 4269 between Bingen (Rhein) Hbf – Mainz Hbf from 13 to 22 December. All other local passenger trains will continue to run as planned during the construction works.

The course will be closed from 27 to 31 December. The DB operates a replacement bus service on the following routes in both directions between Koblenz Hbf and Mainz Hbf:

  • RE 2/RE 17 between Oberwesel – Koblenz Hbf
  • RB 26 between Mainz main station / Bingen main station / Oberwesel main station – Koblenz

Alternatively, travelers can also use the RB 10, which runs on the right bank of the Rhine, from Koblenz via Wiesbaden to Frankfurt.

DB recommends its travelers to obtain information from the media on bahn.de or in the DB Navigator before starting their journey and asks for your understanding due to the current restrictions.
