TPN Ganjar-Mahfud Team Warns Against Politicizing Law for Presidential Candidate

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Ganjar-Mahfud National Winning Team (TPN) hopes that there will be no attempts to politicize the law for presidential candidate number 3 Ganjar Pranowo who was reported to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for alleged bribery in the form of cashback from an insurance company.

However, suspicions of politicization of the law are strengthened considering the statement by TKN Prabowo-Gibran Spokesperson, Fahri Hamzah, that there will be candidates who will become suspects after the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).

TPN Ganjar-Mahfud Legal Director, Ronny Talapessy, admitted that he still remembers very well the statement made by Fahri Hamzah via account X in early January.

“We at TPN still remember very well Fahri Hamzah’s statement in one of the videos that one of the presidential candidates would be a suspect. So, we really hope that there will be no politicization of the law after this election because the impact is very big,” said Ronny to Kompas.com, Tuesday ( 5/3/2024).

Ronny is of the view that Fahri Hamzah’s words could actually have an impact on political stabilization after the 2024 elections.

He also hopes that political stability will be maintained.

“This is what I think we need to remind us not to play around with by politicizing the law,” he said.

This PDI-P politician believes that Ganjar is free from legal cases because he has gone through a series of processes to qualify as a presidential candidate.

However, it is said that TPN will first discuss the report with Ganjar before taking further action or legal action.

“Actually, this is not TPN’s domain because the report was allegedly made at the time of Mas Ganjar, Governor of Central Java. Of course, TPN doesn’t know what happened at that time. And TPN’s job is not to deal with matters outside of elections and presidential elections,” he said.

“However, because it concerns Mas Ganjar Pranowo, we will study it first and will discuss it with Mas Ganjar,” continued Ronny.

As previously reported, the Indonesian Police Watch (IPW) organization reported Ganjar Pranowo and the former Main Director of Bank Jateng with the initials S to the Corruption Eradication Commission.

IPW Chairman Sugeng Teguh Santoso said that Ganjar and S were reported on suspicion of receiving gratuities and/or bribes in the form of cashback from insurance companies.

“IPW reported the alleged receipt of gratuities and/or bribes received by the Directors of Bank Jateng from insurance companies,” said Sugeng when confirmed, Tuesday.

Sugeng said that the insurance company provided credit guarantee coverage to Bank Jateng creditors which was understood as cashback.

The value of the alleged gratuities or bribes reached more than IDR 100 billion.
