The head of the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota recently underwent a change and Koji Sato became the boss, replacing Akio Toyoda. Under Sato, Toyota has pledged to invest heavily in the development of electric cars to catch up with rivals, and this has raised concerns that Toyota might neglect its Gazoo Racing sports brand, but that will not happen.
Sato in conversation with Autocar stated that Toyota will continue to work with this brand and perhaps some projects could be realized even faster than originally planned. Clearly, he didn’t reveal any further details about future designs and possible machines that could receive care and tweaks from GR engineers.
We cannot rule out that Toyota will develop an electric GR car – they presented an electric sports car concept in 2021. Such a car has a potential market and competitors, for example, it is known that Porsche is developing a new generation Cayman, which will be purely electric. Lexus is preparing an electric LFA successor, other automakers are also working on electric sports cars.
