Toyota is making a strategic move to leverage new Indonesian government incentives for hybrid vehicles. The automaker plans to register its popular Innova Zenix and Yaris Cross hybrid models to take advantage of a 3% reduction in the Sales Tax on Luxury Goods (PPnBM).
Anton Jimmi Suwandy, Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), the Indonesian arm of Toyota, explained the companyS strategy. He emphasized that the chosen models must be locally produced and enjoy high consumer demand. “We have to register instantly,” Suwandy stated, “and the models involved are very likely, we are waiting, what is certain is the Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid and Yaris cross Hybrid whose TKDN is already above 70 percent. So I think these are the candidates.”
While TAM awaits the official release of technical and implementation guidelines from the Indonesian government, Suwandy confirmed their readiness to register immediately upon their arrival. “We are just waiting for the technical guidelines because it is impossible for us to apply them without clear rules,” he explained. “So we hope that the technical guidelines and operational guidelines will be issued soon. We will definitely register straight away.”
this initiative follows a call to action from Indonesian Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita. The minister urged domestic hybrid car manufacturers to register their vehicles to qualify for the PPNBM incentives, effective January 1, 2025.Kartasasmita stated, “For this hybrid, I ask hybrid car manufacturers in Indonesia to immediately register their brands with us, so that next year, starting January 1, they will be able to enjoy the stimulus incentives that have been prepared by the government.”
