Sales of Toyota cars in Japan rose by 33 percent year-on-year to 878,215 units. Sales in the United States, on the other hand, decreased by 0.7 percent and slightly exceeded one million cars, sales in Asia fell by half a percent to approximately 1.5 million units.
In June alone, global sales increased by ten percent to 898,947 vehicles. The business benefited from growing demand, including demand for electrified vehicles such as hybrids, in key markets in the US and Europe.
Sales in China posted their first monthly decline in three months in June, down 12.8 percent year-on-year to 174,548 vehicles. From January to June, sales in China fell by 2.8 percent. The big German car manufacturers are also struggling with the drop in demand in this world’s largest car market.
The entire Toyota group, which includes minicar maker Daihatsu and truck maker Hino Motors, sold 5.42 million vehicles in the half-year. In second place is the Volkswagen group, which sold roughly one million cars less. Toyota overtook Volkswagen and other competitors for the fourth year in a row, the Kyódó agency reported.
