Toyota plans to release a new SUV with a Land Cruiser-style design but the price is much cheaper. The car is predicted to launch at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show (JMS).
Quoted from Carscoops, Monday (2/10/2023) in the latest report, the Baby Land Cruiser will have the name “Land Hopper”, as the entry point for the cheap off-road SUV that Toyota will be selling. Practically, the Land Hopper will be with other Land Cruisers, but placed below the 250 Series.
Land Hopper was registered as a trademark on August 8 at the Japanese Patent Office. The trademark falls within the definition of class 12, which includes categories such as motors and engines for land vehicles, clutches and transmission components for land vehicles, and other parts.
It should be noted that the Land Hopper name could be used for certain markets. These manufacturers employ different naming strategies in other regions. For example, Toyota revived the famous FJ Cruiser nameplate for the North American market.
Recently introduced an SUV-style EV car design with the name Compact Cruiser as a concept. No official information has come out from Toyota yet.

Best Car Japan Web said the body size will most likely be similar to the Corolla Cross, with a total length of 4,490 mm, a total width of 1,825 mm and a total height of 1,620 mm, but it is likely larger. The total width is approximately 1,800 mm and the height is 1,850 mm. But the Land Hopper will have a square body and sturdy fenders, like the Land Cruiser.
Still in the same source, options powertrainIt’s not specifically for BEVs, but 1.8L NA (naturally aspirated) petrol and hybrid for the Corolla Cross, or 2L & 2.5L hybrid petrol for the RAV4. Alternatively, you could consider Toyota’s 1.5L turbo hybrid model.

What’s even more interesting is the rumored price for this compact off-road car, with the media predicting the Land Hopper will be priced under $27,000. According to the Japanese magazine, the initial price is expected to be in the range of 3 million Yen to 3.8 million Yen or around IDR 311 million – IDR 394 million.
Of course, in this price range, the Land Hopper is predicted to be able to compete with other baby SUVs. For example, the Suzuki Jimny and Ford Bronco Sport.
It is predicted that the Land Hopper will appear at the Japan Mobility Show at the end of October 2023. The car is planned to be released in the second half of 2024.
