In a few days, the Tokyo Motor Show will start, where Toyota will bring, among other things, two new mysterious cars.

Toyota carmaker today unveiled two interesting cars that it is about to bring to the domestic Tokyo Motor Show. The first of these will be the long-speculated sharper version of the popular GR Yaris hot-hatch, and the second car should be the GR GT3 Concept racing car concept. But let’s start with the better known machine.
This should probably be the circuit-oriented hot-hatch GR Yaris, a test version of which has probably been seen several times during development at the Nürburgring in recent months. From the examples, we can see that the new model will receive, for example, a new hood with a ventilation hole, a distinctive rear spoiler or a redesigned front bumper. Among other modifications, a more pronounced rear diffuser, new light wheels or more emphasized fenders are expected.

Under the hood, a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder is likely to remain, sending up to 272 hp to the all-wheel drive system – depending on the market. It is possible that the carmaker will increase performance even more, but there is also talk of the possibility of adding a hybrid system to the engine, which should be inspired by the electrified WRC special GR Yaris Rally 1, which will appear in the competition series this year.
The second novelty is the mysterious GR GT3 racing concept, which, thanks to its silhouette with an elongated hood and short cab, could offer the traditional arrangement of the front engine and rear-wheel drive. In addition, the concept reveals exhausts above the front fenders, a massive rear spoiler and an interesting front LED signature, which does not resemble any known model of the brand.

The carmaker itself describes the car as “a racing-tailored concept of the car, incorporating the knowledge and sophistication that Toyota Gazoo Racing has acquired in the field of motorsport.” This will probably only be a unique concept, perhaps more of a study that will not have a real chance of becoming a production car. However, some elements of the concept, whether design or technical, could appear in production cars over time.
Both cars, the sharper Toyota GR Yaris and the GR GT3 racing concept, will be unveiled on January 14, the press day of Tokyo Auto Salon 2022. In addition, the carmaker should also present the GR Heritage Parts, which were announced for the Supra A70 models. / A80 and AE86 Corolla Levin / Sprinter Trueno models.
