Jakarta –
Sales of the Japanese-assembled Toyota Raize Hybrid and Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid were suspended due to incorrect procedures in side crash testing. It was recorded that more than 78 thousand units of Raize and Rocky Hybrid could not be sold and sent to consumers because of this case.
In its announcement, Toyota Motor Corporation said that there had been an error in the certification of the UN-R135 crash test carried out by Daihatsu Motor as the party that produced Raize and Rocky Hybrid. UN-R135 is a side crash test using a pole that resembles a power pole.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and concern that may be experienced by all parties concerned, including for customers who are currently using the vehicle,” Toyota wrote.
According to Daihatsu, the mistake was discovered during an internal operational inspection of Daihatsu’s certification, in response to Daihatsu’s announcement on April 28, 2023 that it made a mistake in carrying out a side crash test for a vehicle intended for the export market.
“On May 12, the Toyota Group’s corporate management gathered to update their understanding of the Toyota Group’s commitment to manufacture with integrity.”
“All Group companies, including Toyota Motor Corporation, have initiated a company-wide re-examination and thorough review of the governance system until now. We will work closely with Daihatsu to handle this matter with care,” Toyota concluded.
It was recorded that there were around 78,440 units of Raize Hybrid and Rocky Hybrid whose sales were suspended due to the case. In detail, 22,329 units are Rocky hybrids and the remaining 56,111 units are Raize hybrids.
Previously, the crash test scandal also involved other Daihatsu and Toyota car brands, such as the Toyota Yaris Ativ or Vios, Perodua Axia (similar to Daihatsu Ayla/Toyota Agya in Malaysia), Toyota Agya, and a model that is being developed. It was recorded that 88,123 cars were affected by this case.
