Toyota sells Fortuner 2.4L starting at IDR 570 million, who are the consumers?

The cheapest Toyota Fortuner is offered starting at IDR 570 million with a 2.4L engine type. So who are the buyers of the Fortuner priced below IDR 600 million?

Toyota provides the Fortuner with various options. You can choose according to your budget. The cheapest variant of the Toyota Fortuner is presented with a 2.4L engine type. The cheapest Fortuner 2.4L is priced at IDR 573.7 million while the most expensive is IDR 591.3 million.

Compared to the Fortuner which has a 2.7L and 2.8L engine, only the 2.4L version has a price tag less than IDR 600 million. Not without reason, Toyota positions the Fortuner 2.4L for customers who want a Fortuner with a smaller engine capacity.

“The 2.4L engine option available in the G variant is usually for a more economical market segment, the market is smaller and focuses on consumers who need a smaller capacity engine and are more economical, or that require a manual transmission,” said PT Toyota Astra Motor Marketing Director Anton Jimmi Suwandy when contacted by detikOto recently.

Anton said, Fortuner users are mainly targeting the 2.7L and 2.8L engine types. This can also be seen from sales. For example, the Toyota Fortuner 2.8L will reach 9,000 units in 10 months in 2024. Meanwhile, the 2.4L version is only about 144 units.

“Currently, for the Fortuner, our customers tend to choose the top 2.8L Diesel and 2.7L Gasoline variants, so supply largely follows demand,” explained Anton.

In terms of specifications, the cheapest variant of Toyota Fortuner has a 2GD FTV engine that can produce 149.6 PS of power at 3,400 rpm. The maximum torque reaches 40.8 kgm in the rpm range of 1,600-2,000. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The features are definitely not as comprehensive as the Fortuner 2.8L. In terms of features, the main competitor Pajero Sport is equipped with ABS braking system with EBD and BA. In terms of features, there is hill start assist, emergency brake indicator, trailer sway control, traction control and vehicle stability control.
