Jakarta –
Toyota enliven GIIAS 2023 (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) with commercial products. Interestingly, there is a Toyota Rangga without a casing, this car caught the attention of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga.
In detikcom’s monitoring in hall 3 ICE BSD Tangerang, Thursday (10/8/2023), Toyota, for the first time in recent years, has returned to enliven the special booth for commercial vehicles. The Coordinating Minister for Airlangga was seen chatting with Vice President of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) Henry Tanoto.
“This price is under Rp. 300 million?” asked Airlangga while holding the hood of the Toyota Rangga car.
Because the booth is so crowded and out of reach. There was no answer from Henry Tanoto.
A moment later Henry explained that the car could be converted to various models. In the exhibition, Toyota Rangga became a Tuku coffee shop style car.
“And it’s easy to convert sir, we also sell the chassis,” said Henry Tanoto.
There is no known exact information about the car with the “Rangga Concept” decoration. However, the presence of the Toyota Rangga concept car indicates that Toyota is returning to play in the commercial segment.
In terms of design, the Rangga Concept is reminiscent of the multipurpose commercial vehicle Toyota IMV 0 which is exhibited in the form of various types of commercial cars. Starting from campervans, restaurant cars, and so on.
The IMV 0 concept pickup was unveiled at Toyota Motors Thailand’s 60th anniversary celebrations in Bangkok.

This car is scheduled to launch for the first time in Thailand in 2024. In the Thai market, pickups are very popular, so it is only natural for Toyota to develop new pickup variants such as the IMV 0 for the White Elephant country market.
The name Rangga is also familiar to Toyota Indonesia. The Kijang Capsule, which was introduced in 1997, had a total change in shape where the Kijang Capsule appeared more aerodynamic with smoother curves. For the first time, Kijang is available in diesel and automatic transmission variants.
The Toyota Kijang Capsule is offered in two variants, namely the Toyota Kijang Krista and the Toyota Kijang Rangga. At that time, the Kijang Capsule broke a sales record, with sales of 56,831 units in 1996 rising to 81,134 units in 1997.
detikcom previously reported that Toyota would market commercial vehicles that could have worked with car body companies.
“Toyota Hilux is from Thailand, Hiace is still from Japan, and why are we developing the car body market, because that’s actually a local product. Our plan for the future is that Hilux is still from Thailand on a large economic scale, we can only import the frame. This is a kind of semi-production again , and that’s difficult for Toyota to do because commercial is different (each country), boxes (commercial boxed vehicles) have different sizes, some use AC, some don’t, some might want to make a mobile cafe, some Those who want to make ambulances are too varied,” said Marketing Director of PT TAM, Anton Jimmi.
“Right now we are still importing some chassis and some that have been made (CBU), but in the future we will see whether there is a big market or not, now we are still importing the big ones that are finished (CBU), we are closer to our car body friends. Yes, let’s build Indonesia,” said Anton.
