Toyota Land Cruiser Expansion: New Affordable B-SUV Concept Imagined by Designer

The Toyota Land Cruiser family of SUVs today includes the recently introduced J250 (aka Prado), the larger J300 and the immortal J70 series, but the Japanese marque recently announced plans to further expand it.

Inspired by this news, an independent designer from Malaysia with the nickname “Theottle” decided to fantasize about what a new model in the Land Cruiser line could be, illustrating one of the scenarios.

As conceived by the automotive artist, a novelty in the Land Cruiser family could be a representative of the most affordable SUV segment (the so-called B-SUVs).

In the images posted on the Web, the “younger” Land Cruiser received the proportions of cars in this class, but visually acquired the style previously demonstrated in the new LC 250 (Prado).

The result, to put it mildly, was not the most impressive. The longer front overhang, lower ride height and sporty alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile tires don’t exactly match the Land Cruiser’s boxy and brutal style.

However, the rear of the car looks good, paired with retro LED taillights and square arches.

In theory, such a car could impose competition on the Jeep Avenger and Ford Bronco Sport models, but Toyota will definitely not release it. The main reason is potential criticism from loyal Land Cruiser fans, for whom the name is closely associated with exceptional off-road capabilities, but not with the cheapest crossovers on the market.

It is possible that the expansion of the LC family will take a slightly different path and Toyota will prepare a new version of this model, which will retain off-road qualities, but at the same time will become more electrified than the current Land Cruisers.
