420 million crowns to Cologne
The total investment reached 17 million euros, ie more than 420 million crowns, and 18,000 cars can be on site at one time. The center serves all of Central Europe, as well as the Czech Republic, ie Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland.
“We, like Toyota, are now trying to transform from a car manufacturer to a company that provides mobile services to its customers. We want to achieve this by expanding our portfolio of activities that we undertake. One of the measures that we do as a production back-up is that we service and try to isolate the cars for our customers,” explained Kiml.
The center should improve service quality and reduce vehicle delivery times. At the same time, it will allow more pre-sales and vehicle customization services for customers.
Strengthening the situation
“The opening of our megahub in Cologne represents an important milestone in our logistics strategy. This facility sets a new standard in vehicle logistics,” he said Jean-Christophe DevilleVice President of Supply Chain at Toyota Motor Europe.
“The EUR 17 million investment in the Cologne megahub demonstrates Toyota’s unwavering commitment to doing business in the Czech Republic. This strategic step not only strengthens our presence in Central Europe, but also shows our confidence in the potential of this region,” said Kiml, according to which 50 people currently working in the center. “We donated staff from our center and at the same time we hired other staff to our center,” said Kiml.
On the rail to other races
The Cologne plant has also strengthened its rail connection – it is connected by rail to several European Toyota car factories, which reduces CO emissions.2 from vehicle logistics.
“We associate the plant in England, France and with mushrooms in other places. At the moment we have about forty percent of traffic by rail, but in the future we would like to move to 60 to 70 percent. But that depends on the ability of the Czech rail corridor to handle this capacity,” Kiml said.
