In recent weeks, Škoda has canceled some shifts and adapted production. Toyota straight lines stop. She announced that it would not be produced in Cologne for two weeks from Monday.
The reason is the same: The lack of semiconductors, which are essential for car manufacturers, and has been missing from the market for a long time. The situation was exacerbated by unexpected snowstorms in February in some areas of the US, which forced chip producers to cut production. And the outage subsequently manifested itself in Europe, confirmed Škoda Auto and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic.
For the time being, Škoda has managed to make adjustments in shifts and is operatively changing production as much as possible. So far, he manages it and the lines are going, although the unions have recently come to the conclusion that due to the difficult situation in connection with the covid, the car industry has quite harsh conditions, especially for agency employees – more here:
At the beginning of the year, Škoda production fell – in January and February it produced 140,459 cars in its domestic plants, which is almost 13% less than last year. Nevertheless, he wants to keep production and reassemble some unfinished cars when the deliveries of parts return to normal.
According to the Association of the Automotive Industry, Toyota also produced significantly fewer cars in Cologne in the first two months of this year than last year: 29,036 cars, which is 28.3% less than a year ago. At the beginning of March, however, it strengthened shifts to kick off production. And it’s also recruiting new people, because it’s getting ready to start producing a new generation of Yaris soon.
However, further supply disruptions have drawn a line across the budget. Toyota has said that it will stop production in Cologne completely for 14 days from March 22.
A total of 206,695 passenger cars were produced in the Czech Republic in the first two months of this year, which is 13.6% less than in the same period last year. The year-on-year decline in domestic production is thus still significantly lower than the overall decline of markets in the European Union (-21.7%).
Nošovice’s Hyundai reports a slightly better development than its competitors. In the first two months, it produced 37,200 vehicles (only 0.8% less than last year), if we count only in February, production increased significantly to 18,750 vehicles (14.3% more than a year ago).
