Toyota GR 86 – more power with a new boxer engine

Toyota expands its sporty GR series with a third model – GR 86 – a sequel to the GT86.

Toyota GR 86 follows GR Supra and GR Yaris. GR stands for Gazoo Racing and is Toyota’s equivalent of Mercedes’ sports department AMG.

The small and light sports car GT86 was launched in 2012 and sold over 200,000 copies. The new successor GR 86 is intended to be the lightest four-seater coupe with the help of extensive use of aluminum.

The outer dimensions are almost identical with GT86, but the torsional rigidity has increased by almost 50 percent.

GT86 had a 2-liter boxer engine, GR 86 gets a newly designed boxer engine of 2.4 liters.

Toyota GR 86 will be sold on the European market and will be launched later this year.
