Toyota Motor has separated the Crown name into a separate brand, but at the moment only for the Chinese market. As reported, the new branding will be developed in collaboration with FAW Group. Below it, models of the middle price segment will appear on the market. Specifically, the 16th generation Toyota Crown family (S235), which includes a sedan, station wagon, sport crossover and crossover sedan. The presentation of the latter took place in July of this year.
The brand’s new catalog will also include the Toyota Crown Kluger crossover in the Highlander version and the Toyota Crown Vellfire minivan in the Alphard version. Both models are in production from 2021. Production of the China-adapted version of the Crown SportCross crossover sedan will be established at the FAW-Toyota joint venture facilities. On the local market, the first car of the new brand will be offered with a power unit operating on the “parallel hybrid” scheme.
Two versions of the unit are planned, with 249 and 350 hp. In the first case, the powertrain consists of a 2.5-liter petrol “atmospheric engine”, two electric motors and an electromechanical variator. In the second – a 2.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, two electric motors and a 6-speed automatic transmission. A separate network of showrooms will also be created to sell cars of the new brand. By the end of 2022 there will be 12 and after three years 40 different models.
