Toyota Confirms Sales of Hilux Rangga in 2024, Imported from Thailand

Jakarta

Toyota has confirmed that it will sell its commercial car Hilux Rangga in 2024. However, it is certain that the Hilux Rangga will not be produced in Indonesia, but will be imported directly from Thailand.

The arrival of the Toyota Hilux Rangga from Thailand and not being produced in Indonesia is certainly not without explanation. As stated by the President Director of PT TMMIN, Nandi Julyanto.

Nandi said it was not that TMMIN did not want to produce the Hilux Rangga in Indonesia. Nandi explained that TMMIN is currently still focused on producing the Toyota Fortuner and Innova.

“Actually, our production line capacity is still sufficient, but when it comes to producing it (Hilux Rangga) it is different. Because the Hilux Rangga has a longer frame compared to the Fortuner and Innova,” said Nandi during the Toyota Media Gathering.

“Just to note, while we are still focused on the Innova and Fortuner, if we include that (the Hilux Rangga produced at TMMIN) our capacity will actually decrease, because the frame will be long, so our line will also be short,” Nandi added.

In Thailand, the twin brother of the Hilux Rangga, aka Hilux Champ, is equipped with three engine variants, namely petrol 4-cylinder 2,000 cc and 2,700 cc, and diesel 4-cylinder 2,400 cc. This supply is channeled to the wheels via a 5-speed automatic and manual transmission.

The vehicle’s petrol engine uses the code TR-FE, while the diesel engine has the code 2GD-FTV. The Hilux Champ has gone on sale in Thailand with a price range of 459 thousand to 577 thousand baht or the equivalent of IDR 203-255 million.
