Toyota Celica is preparing to return to the limelight. 18 years after the end of production of its sports car, the Japanese car manufacturer has announced that it is working on a model that will take up this name: we still don’t know what model it will be or what its characteristics will be, even if some reports that were circulated last year they talked about the return of the Celica as part of a new era of electric sports cars from Toyota.
The return of Toyota Celica
But if at the time no Toyota executive had confirmed his return, this time, speaking at Rally Japan this weekend, the vice president of the Japanese brand, Yuki Nakajima, declared: “We’re making the Celica. To be honest, there is no sign of it at the moment, but there are many people within the company who they look forward to it. I wonder if it’s right to say this in a public forum, but I’ll say it anyway: we’re making the Celica.”
New electric sports car?
Toyota has reportedly discussed whether to push a new Celica toward production on one, Autocar reported new platform for electric cars. The key to this architecture is a low seat height, which would guarantee a driving experience much more similar to that of traditional sports cars. Will this actually be the case? We’ll see, but in the meantime there is one certainty: Toyota Celica is about to return.
