Toyota at the SEMA Show: Three rugged offroads and one tangible accessory catalog

The ongoing SEMA Show in Las Vegas is a holiday for lovers of modified cars, and of course Toyota cannot miss it. The seven specialties she brought show what her accessories division can handle, but also what a lot of fans would like, but probably won’t get.

We can start right away – that’s it Toyota GR Supra Sport Top, ie the version with a removable roof panel. The same body had the famous orange supra of the fourth generation in the film Fast and Furious, which helped to start the fanatical popularity of this car.

This is not such a novelty, the car was already ready for last year’s car show, which, however, did not take place due to the covid. Only now is the carmaker showing it live and reminding them that the modification was not just about cutting the roof. The car also received reinforcements to maintain the strength of the body even without a roof.

However, at the SEMA Show, Toyota focuses mainly on off-road cars. The star is a machine called Tacozillabut which is not Godzilla eating tacos. It is a Toyota Tacoma pick-up with a residential superstructure instead of a body.

It is a reference to residential Toyota from the 70s and 80s of the last century and its superstructure is fully equipped, including a refrigerator, stove, sink and a cell with a shower and toilet. An interesting feature is the manhole between the cab and the camping superstructure, which means that you will not exchange the superstructure for a body with your own serial tacoma.

According to the carmaker, this change was one of the biggest challenges – the tacoma stands on the chassis frame and it is therefore necessary for the cab and stern to be able to move slightly relative to each other when the frame is twisted in the terrain. This car is primarily oriented towards driving off asphalt, notice off-road tires, a winch or a protective plate under the engine.

The sharper the machine is Toyota TRD Desert Chase Tundra, prepared as an accompanying vehicle for off – road racing. Here, in addition to additional lighting, the changes focused mainly on the chassis.

He received a specially designed suspension with a significantly longer stroke compared to the serial condition. Of course, it is also more durable so that the car can drive fast in the desert or other difficult terrain. That’s why she has lights, shortened bumpers or off-road tires. There are two spare wheels on the body, water and fuel tanks and a rescue board.

Offroad travelers will love the concept Tacoma Overlanding, which was created in collaboration with Cruiser Outfitters with the aim of describing its name – to be the best possible machine for so-called overlanding, ie several weeks of wilderness travel.

A roof tent is a matter of course, as are rescue equipment, increased suction or water canisters at the rear of the car. In the body, it found a place for a field kitchen, and instead of standard bumpers, there are steel fortresses, on which the car can easily lean without fear of damage. The suspension is also strengthened and increased, this time by the Old Man Emu brand from the Australian company ARB, which also supplied a lot of other equipment for this machine.

For wilderness travel, there was also TRD Sport Trailer, an off – road trailer full of equipment just for this pastime. Although off-road trailers are a bit controversial in terms of permeability or the possible need to turn in a tight space, they are also quite popular.

This one was created from the body of the Tacoma model and, like the Overlanding concept above, it has everything one could need when traveling through the wilderness. There is a tent, stove, refrigerator, generator, lighting, canopy and even some board games. The battery is charged by a solar panel and there is also a toilet with a curtain, which will create privacy for you and as a bonus it looks like a caddy in the woods.

The last terrain model is new Tundra with accessories from the TRD catalog. There is not much special on it compared to other pieces – except that, unlike them, customers will be able to buy it and order accessories.

The kit of increasing the chassis by 3 inches, ie less than 8 cm, is essential here, which of course also improves the approach angles. The car also got treads, chassis protection, body extension after opening the rear front, swivel boxes in the body or its folding hard cover.

And finally, the last machine at Toyota’s booth is GR Supra Heritage Edition, which, however, introduced itself two years ago. It’s a red supra with a large wing at the stern, a diffuser at the back and a lollipop at the front bumper.

In addition to visual changes, the biggest modifications are the new turbocharger from Precision Turbo & Engine and the control software from Mission Performance. The intake and exhaust are also special, resulting in over 500 horsepower.
