The Japanese car manufacturer Toyota, in cooperation with its Chinese partner FAW, has announced the second large-scale recall of the electric bZ3 electric car in China in about eight months – the company is recalling more than 25 thousand cars because they may incorrectly display the remaining battery.
In some cases, situations have been recorded when the car simply turns off because the battery is empty, while the person sitting at the wheel was not informed about it, because the car provides incorrect data.
The recall indicates that the problem is related to inaccuracies in the software of the machine’s battery management system, as a result of which the remaining data of the battery may differ significantly from the real situation and the driver may not even realize that the machine’s electricity reserves are actually running out.
This problem is especially true for machines that have not been fully charged several times in a row and the machines have been driven at high speeds. In extreme cases, the machine can completely shut down without any warning. The problem will be addressed with an over-the-air software update, which should fix the problem.
