Jakarta –
Toyota realizes that Chinese and Korean cars are becoming more attractive. For this reason, Toyota is starting to improve and embed increasingly sophisticated technology in its cars.
The presence of Chinese and Korean cars has recently become more massive in Indonesia. Chinese cars appear to be increasingly aggressive in filling the domestic automotive market.
In terms of price, especially Chinese cars, they are offered cheaper. Apart from the low price, Chinese cars also present a contemporary appearance and quite sophisticated technology. Likewise with Korean cars which have recently looked increasingly attractive with their futuristic appearance.
It is not surprising that Chinese and Korean cars have become the new favorites in the eyes of some domestic people.
The Japanese automotive giant, Toyota, is aware of this. Toyota apparently did not remain silent and immediately improved by embedding increasingly sophisticated technology in its car line-up.
“I then realized that our product was less attractive in the cockpit area. It needed more features than Chinese and Korean products. So, we are speeding up with intelligent technology and starting next year, which is still a secret, we will improve technical things in Indonesia, ” said President of Toyota Daihatsu Engineering and Manufacturing (TDEM) Yoshiki Konishi.
Yoshiki apparently found out about this from one of the Chinese or Korean brand electric car users. There are various things that add value to Chinese and Korean electric cars.
“When I went to Jakarta, there was a customer who also had a BEV (electric car) and he was very interested in the offer not only of the electricity, but also the cockpit, interior like multimedia. According to the customer, the interior was very good,” explained Yoshiki again.
Toyota’s steps to improve so as not to be left behind by Chinese or Korean manufacturers are not just about improving the appearance and performance of its cars. Toyota plans to set up an electric vehicle battery factory in Indonesia. Later, the Toyota battery factory in Indonesia will be used to meet the need for electric vehicles in the Asian region.
“According to Toyota, especially in the Asian region from the battery side, we want to utilize Indonesian CATL batteries for our electric vehicles. This is the current strategy,” explained Yoshiki.
