The town hall is delighted with the financial closure of the football stadium. But asks that the road be developed as planned by Ode to the Sea before the abandonment of the project.
The announcement by the mayor of Montpellier and president of the Métropole Michaël Delafosse of the progress of the future Louis Nicollin football stadium was particularly well received at the town hall of Pérols.
“Closing the financial package at €245 million represents a relatively colossal investment for a private operation. The Nicollin group invests 84%“, specifies Jean-Pierre Rico, mayor of Pérols. “And the permit must be filed in the coming months. This is a very important issue for Pérols.“
A significant contribution in taxes
This future stadium, which is to be set up between the Le Liner building and the Carrefour shopping center, is perceived as “one more element with the exhibition park, supported by the Region, which has invested €85 million to renovate it, and the Arena room. These are major facilities and the municipality will support this project. We will listen because it generates jobs, attractiveness for our territory, with a significant contribution in taxes“, specifies the chosen one.
“We received support from Michaël Delafosse for security on match days. That was one of the concerns about site selection. Montpellier has guaranteed that the means of the City will be maintained identically in terms of safety and cleanliness.“
Jean-Pierre Rico: “I won’t let go”
Mobility issues are among the other points to which Pérols is sensitive. “A whole series of developments were originally planned for Ode à la Mer, particularly in terms of roads. We want them to be made so that mobility remains fluid, including for cars.”
The mayor of Pérols thus quotes the RD172 near the Liner “which was to pass into 2×2 lanes. The land right of way belongs to the public, we hope that this development will be well done before the commissioning of the football stadium. There are also several right turns. That of the Pailletrice must facilitate the exit of the exhibition park, the Arena room and therefore the future Louis-Nicollin stadium.“
There is also a roundabout at the height of the Démeter recycling center which would make it possible to remove the traffic light. “It also requires sidewalk curbs that are impassable to prevent straddling the sidewalk and the lane. We work with the gendarmerie, the national police and the fire brigade to create a rescue route in order to intervene very quickly in the event of a problem. On this aspect I will not give up.“
Doubling of tram line 3
A significant satisfaction is also noted by the town hall with the Metropolis which has recorded the doubling of tram line 3 to allow better service for the stadium but also the Arena and the exhibition center by streamlining the exit of events.
But will the city of Pérols really have the means to impose its points of view, which is not a party to the project? “An establishment operates only by the police powers of the mayor. It is the mayor who signs the opening of a demonstration, or not, depending on the security conditions which are met or not. I am in favor of the project but in the best conditions of safety and mobility. Including in terms of parking and parking. Yes at the stadium but we will be vigilant that it works.“
And the mayor recalls the setbacks in 2014 of the I Love Techno demonstration. “For six months before the demonstration, I had warned that if all the necessary security conditions were not met I would ban the demonstration. I was presented with a fait accompli the day before the demonstration. This concerned 36,000 young people from all over Europe who found doors closed.“
