Town & Country Foundation supports child and youth work in Leipzig with 5,000 euros

Five non-profit associations and institutions in the trade fair city of Leipzig are recognized by the Town & Country Foundation for their important work for disadvantaged children and young people – and each is funded with 1,000 euros.

On behalf of the Erfurt Foundation, Manuela Bellmann, as the foundation ambassador, praised the diverse commitment: “What you are doing here with a lot of heart and soul, passion and creativity to make the world a little better for the weakest in our society – that is impressive and actually priceless”, she thanked all employees and volunteers of the funded projects.

The 9th Town & Country Foundation Prize again promotes social commitment throughout Germany for physically, mentally and socially disadvantaged children and young people. Equal opportunities regardless of origin, gender, social or religious background: Kindergartens, schools and non-profit associations all over Germany are committed to this. They help and promote with educational, integration and inclusion programs, with therapy offers and grief counseling. This commitment helps ensure that young people have equal opportunities for education and quality of life.

The following projects from Leipzig are supported as part of this year’s Foundation Prize:

  • Of the Clownsnasen e. В. enables clinic clowns to play in facilities in which seriously ill children are treated – including in the intensive care unit of the children’s clinic at the University Clinic in Leipzig. The “clown visit”, a rather funny conversation than a classic clown game, provides both children and their parents with a pleasant break from everyday hospital life, especially under the restrictive and stressful conditions of the intensive care unit.

  • The Friends of the Kita am Kirschberg e. V. would like to make ecological education an integral part of everyday day-care life: In the “Our Environment” project, children from 3 to 6 should develop a better understanding and awareness of the environment and environmental protection – around 80 kindergarten children from the socially disadvantaged area of Leipzig-Grünau benefit from this. The funding amount is used for various educational materials, such as learning cards and books, games on the topic and planting sets for the kindergarten’s own raised bed.

  • In the social indoor playground “PlayTogether” of the Pavilion of Hope in Leipzig V. Foreign, local and disabled children play together with children from low-income families, from difficult situations or in special living conditions – free of charge. After the difficult year 2020, the funding will be used to keep the project going.

  • Of the Lumos – Strong for Kids e. V. from Leipzig supports the integration of socially disadvantaged children and young people. In the “Healthy Nutrition” project, the association offers them the opportunity to acquire relevant knowledge and skills in various individual activities and at the same time to receive a healthy meal. With the help of the funding, further modules such as “Healthy lunch” and “Healthy dessert” are implemented.

  • ROCK YOUR LIFE! Leipzig e. V. belongs to a network of students, schoolchildren and companies who work together for more educational justice and equal opportunities. With a 1: 1 mentoring program, ROCK YOUR LIFE! young people who are disadvantaged compared to their classmates because of their social background. The funding amount helps, above all, to carry out the mentoring digitally.

About the Town & Country Foundation

The Town & Country Foundation was founded in 2009 by Gabriele and Jürgen Dawo. The aim was initially to help builders and their families who were in need through no fault of their own. The foundation’s activities were soon expanded to include the foundation prize, which is awarded annually. This supports non-profit organizations that work for socially disadvantaged, sick or disabled children and young people.

In this context, 500 non-profit institutions and projects are funded nationwide with 1,000 euros each. In addition, one outstanding project will be awarded a funding amount of a further 5,000 euros for each federal state. This final award will take place as part of the Town & Country Foundation Gala in autumn 2021.
