Towers wrestle Munich down in overtime

After the break, both teams tried to attack the basket consistently, which was more of a benefit to the guests. Kameron Taylor successfully broke the pattern and scored more Towers points on the board with a three (46:49, 23rd). In defense, the Hamburg team went to their limits, even forcing Munich’s Reynolds to play airball. Two Bayern ball losses later, incidentally the first two since the first quarter, enabled Maik Kotsar from the free-throw line to connect first and, thanks to the swing threesome, the Towers changed the lead again in the following attack (55:53, 27th). The defensive high phase of the Towers prevented more Munich counters for three minutes. However, as the Hamburg team were unable to draw too little capital from their strong defense, FC Bayern had four points to shorten it to 58:57 at the end of the third quarter.

Jordan Swing opened the final section with a threesome, but had to sit on the bench with his fourth foul just 60 seconds later. But his teammates also braced themselves with strength against the EuroLeague team. Nevertheless, Seeley and Zipser managed to equalize the game again with four points in a row (63:63, 33rd). After a time-out, Maik Kotsar was able to prevail despite a foul on the basket, but missed the bonus free throw. In return, the center put in the follow-up attack directly under the ring, forcing Munich to time out (67:63, 34th). With a stepback threesome, Wade Baldwin, whose sphere of activity had considerably restricted the Towers up to this point, had Munich reconnected. But Pedro Calles’ team remained nervous and defended the lead again over two and a half minutes. Two ball losses, which Zisko immediately converted into Munich points, not only hurt the towers in this phase, but also made the lead shrink again significantly (73:72, 37th). Thanks to strong finishes by Maik Kotsar and Jordan Swing, the Towers put forward again, Zipser brought the game into the last minute with a free throw (77:76, 39th). Maik Kotsar made the perfect crunchtime debut with a lay-up, Baldwin equalized with a three. Because neither team succeeded in another basket in the last 35 seconds, it went 79:79 into overtime.

Maik Kotsar started the extra shift with a free throw, TJ Shorts put a jumper on from the free throw line. Even more impressive, however, was the strong Towers defense, which kept Munich from further points for three minutes. With a triple, Kameron Taylor increased to 85:79 (43rd), Munich acknowledged that with a time-out. After almost four minutes, the Munich team came through Johnson to their first points in overtime. TJ Shorts, Terry Allen and Max DiLeo followed up with more Towers points, a Munich buzzerbeater came too late, the sensational 91-86 victory of Hamburg Towers was perfect.
