The government, meeting in the Council of Ministers on Thursday December 28, 2023, decided to produce national electronic identity cards (CNIE) from 2024.
The government will produce National Electronic Identity cards (CNIE) in the first quarter of 2024. To this end, a draft decree relating to access and processing of personal data stored in the Official Biometric Identification system of Gabon (IBOGA) and the enrollment of unidentified persons with a view to establishing the National Identity Card Electronics (CNIE) has been validated.
This draft text, which consists on the one hand, of the processing of personal data of Gabonese citizens already identified in the IBOGA system and on the other hand, of the enrollment of persons who are not there, aims among other things : the collection of personal data and biometric data of Gabonese citizens contained in the official biometric identification system of Gabon (IBOGA). Also this aims, the enrollment of Gabonese citizens not registered in the official Biometric identification system of Gabon, then, the facilitation of the process of establishment and production of the National Electronic Identity Card (CNIE) by the extraction personal and biometric data of natural persons present in the official biometric identification system of Gabon
And finally the guarantee of reliability and security of Gabon’s official biometric identification file. The government also validated the project extending the national identity cards issued between 2011 and 2013 in Gabon, until the effective delivery of the New Electronic Identity Card (CNIE).
