The Bank of Central African States will introduce, with the authorization of Umac, (Central African Monetary Union), the new coins in the six countries of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa .
According to the final communiqué of Umac (the Central African Monetary Union), “The Ministerial Committee authorized the creation of a new range of coins in accordance with the recommendations made to the BEAC”. The decision was adopted on March 15, 2023 in Yaoundé, Cameroon during a meeting of Umac ministers.
Indeed, the creation of these coins comes three months after the circulation in the economies of CEMAC, of a new range of type 2020 banknotes.
However, the statement did not reveal any date regarding the issuance of these new coins. Note that the new coins will put an end to the scarcity of coins observed for several years in the countries of the sub-region.
