“The broadcast of matches is likely to be the exception rather than the rule.” Cyrille Morel, civil security and nightlife assistant, showered the hopes of bar managers to be able to broadcast Euro football matches on the terrace. Awaiting national health protocol detailed to be put in place for the third phase of deconfinement from June 9, the city of Rennes has not yet decided on the broadcasting of matches on the terrace.
Complicated when you know the configuration of the Rennes terraces
The terrace gauges will go to 100% of their capacity on June 9, but the rule of six people sitting at the table will still be in effect. The implementation of the curfew at 11 p.m. risks complicating the logistics on the bar terraces according to Cyrille Morel, especially for matches at 9 p.m., like the Blues’ first game against Germany on June 15. “Curfew at 11 p.m. is not “at 11 pm I leave the terrace”, this is “at 11pm I returned home” it’s going to be very complicated for operators to tidy up a deck before the end of a game. “
One solution could be to install the screens on the terrace so that the match is not visible from the street but only from the terrace. The Nightlife Assistant is working on this topic but “when you know the configuration of most of Rennes’ terraces, it seems complicated to implement.”
The risk of groupings on public roads
The municipality received the health protocol for the music festival on June 21, and that does not derogate from the rules put in place from June 9. “It is therefore clear that the broadcasts of matches on the terrace in the coming weeks are going to be complicated.” Cyrille Morel fears that a terrace broadcast will create groups of more than ten people in public space, however prohibited. A meeting with the coffee makers is scheduled for Tuesday, June 8. The deputy hopes to receive a detailed protocol before this meeting.
