Towards shorter rallies to conclude the 2020 season?

If today the heats of the WRC include around 300 km of sectors against the stopwatch, the end of the 2020 season could see the heats that will be entered on the calendar display only at least 250 km.

An idea that is currently being discussed in the WRC commission at the FIA, and which was not put to the vote at the last World Motor Sport Council last week.

The rallies would take place over three days, from Friday to Sunday, therefore excluding the day of Thursday. A decision that could be validated with a view to reducing costs in the face of the crisis linked to the coronavirus pandemic.

Recall that the FIA had already ratified the reduction in the number of usable engines (from 3 to 2) if the next calendar were to include eight events or less. Another axis worked to contain costs, the reduction of tests for pilots aligned by a manufacturer to one day before any European round.

So far, manufacturers have had 42 days of testing. Travel on the basis nominated by each brand for the year remains unlimited.
