Towards New Normal, Singapore Considers Corona Virus Ordinary Flu

Singapore is heading for a new normal by living side by side with corona.

SuaraSumbar.id – Singapore officially announced that they would go to the new normal and regard the corona virus as a common cold.

Straittimes said this step was taken by the government of the Lion Country after successfully suppressing the spread of the virus.

Later, Singapore will go to a new normal by living side by side with the corona. This disease will be considered as endemic just like influenza and chickenpox because it is realized that it will never disappear from the face of the earth.

In the new normal phase, there will be five targets to be achieved by the government and its citizens. The five targets are:

– Infected residents can self-isolate at home
– No need for large-scale tracing and quarantine of every infected person
– No more daily counting of corona cases
– Loosening social restrictions
– Opening trips to and from other countries

It’s just that when deciding to live side by side with the corona, the Singapore government has gone through various considerations. The three deputy heads of the Singapore Multi-Ministerial Task Force will implement the following steps towards the New Normal.

1. Accelerate Vaccination

Singapore’s step towards the new normal is to accelerate vaccination. As many as 75 percent of the total population of Singapore is targeted to have completed the first phase of vaccination in early July.

The population is also targeted to get a second stage of vaccination if possible on August 9, 2021 or to coincide with Singapore’s National Day. Vaccines are currently a top priority because they have been shown to be effective in reducing the risk of infection and transmission.

The infection rate of vaccinated recipients is estimated to be 30 times lower than that of those who have not been vaccinated. The hospitalization rate of patients with vaccination is estimated to be only about ten times lower.

2. Procurement of Covid Tests is Easier

Towards the new normal, the Singaporean government plans to make the corona test quick and easy. The country has now launched a rapid, self-administered antigen test carried out by private polyclinics and pharmacies. The test equipment used is also faster, such as a breathalyser, which results in just two minutes of waiting.

This rapid test kit will replace swabs in public places such as ports, malls and office buildings. However, the standard system of corona tests will still apply at the border as an anticipatory measure for virus carriers that are still being watched globally, such as the delta variant.

Domestically, the number of tests as tracing and suppression of transmission will be reduced. However, social activities and travel abroad must be ensured to be safe to reduce the risk of transmission, especially for those who are susceptible to infection.

3. Improve Medical Services

Singapore’s next step towards the new normal is to improve medical services. Even though until now Singapore has listed itself as one of the countries with the lowest number of deaths due to corona.

Worldometer data says Singapore only recorded six deaths per one million population with a total of more than 13 million tests. The population is around 5 million. Currently, Singapore is ensuring effective medical services, including the availability of medicines.
