Alexander Chuck wrote the poem in 1943, but it was published long after the author’s death from unpublished manuscripts in 1972. In a philosophical, historical and psychological twist, the writer has reflected on the spiritual formation of the personality, hardening and the path to harmony in difficult times.

Imants Kalnins started writing opera in the centenary of Chuck. Until now, the score has been stored in the composer’s library, and now, twenty years later, it will have its premiere. It became a monumental opus in three acts and six scenes about Riga, the people of Riga, honor and love, the way to harmony and spiritual freedom.

The concert performance consists of music and drama rooms Oratory creators – director Rēzija Kalniņa and conductor and musical director Ainārs Rubiķis. The creative team consists of playwright Dace Micāne-Zālīte, set designer Sandra Strēle, lighting designer Ainārs Pastars, costume designer Ilze Vītoliņa and choreographer Inga Krasovska.

The orchestra participates in the production of the opera Sinfonietta Riga musicians, Riga Chamber Choir Bird sun and opera soloists – Armands Siliņš, Krišjānis Norvelis, Viktorija Pakalniece, Artjoms Safronovs, Juris Jope, Edgars Ošleja and Rihards Millers.

Director Rēzija Kalniņa emphasizes: “The future does not exist without the past, just as a tree does not grow without roots. If we want our future and our future generation to think, feel and hear, Chuck and Imka are the teachers who can love it for them. give.”
