Cars of the Prague Public Transport and Prague Services (PSAS) will be able to use hydrogen propulsion. Together with Pražská plynárenská (PPAS) and PSAS, the city will launch a project to decarbonize Prague through hydrogen mobility. The goal is to reduce emissions.
The pilot project for the production and use of green hydrogen is financed by European funds and includes the development of a study on the production and use of green hydrogen. In March of this year, the capital applied for a European subsidy of approximately 1.56 million crowns.
Cooperation on the development of technologies was approved by Prague councilors in mid-August, when they agreed to a memorandum of cooperation with the mentioned companies. The pilot project will last until December 31, 2025.
“The hydrogen mobility project fits into our energy strategy, which we are implementing in the capital. On the one hand, to make Prague energy-independent and therefore safe. And to use all available sources of energy, from the classic ones to the new, so-called green ones. All this, of course, also taking into account the economic side of the matter,” Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda said after the August meeting of the City Council.
Based on the approved memorandum, the capital will cooperate with the gas plant and PSAS on the production of electricity from renewable energy sources, the production of green or low-carbon hydrogen.
They will also deal with the storage and distribution of hydrogen, the use of hydrogen in its conversion to electricity or electricity and heat, and in combustion.
They will also work on developing the infrastructure for alternative fuels and expanding the number of emission-free vehicles and putting new technologies into practice.
In the project, the city envisages a proposal for the location of a renewable energy source, an electrolyser and a hydrogen filling station for filling buses and municipal service vehicles with hydrogen in selected locations. The project also includes an economic analysis and a technical feasibility study.
The project and cooperation with PPAS and PSAS in the field of hydrogen use are part of the so-called climate plan that Prague approved.
The plan includes plans to improve the environment and limit emissions or fossil fuels in transport.
