Towards an optimization of waste treatment

In the years to come, the cost of treating household waste will inevitably increase. This is due to a national policy that aims to reduce the amount of ultimate waste that ends up in landfill or incineration through an increase in the general tax on polluting activities levied by the State.

Already in this perspective, Grand Orb had anticipated the legal obligation to sort household packaging with very positive results since its implementation a year ago. But we must go further. Community representatives are working on an optimization plan to reduce costs.

Grand Orb like all the inter-municipal authorities in France will not be spared by the increase in the cost of waste treatment. The community of municipalities, under the leadership of Francis Barsse, deputy vice-president for waste management, wishes to make the necessary decisions for the future of the service: “We must in terms of responsibility limit a surge in the cost of the collection and treatment of waste in our territory. This cost is borne by the citizens within the framework of the household waste removal tax (TEOM). waste treatment continues to increase and will increase even more in the years to come. We will not be able to reverse the trend but we can limit the bill by sorting more and optimizing collection “.

Last week, the steering committee met to study different scenarios proposed as part of an in-depth study on waste optimization. The consulting firm IDE Environnement presented three scenarios and their financial outlook. The first exchanges tend to sort and collect bio-waste to reduce the weight and volume of the burgundy bin.

The fact remains that the impact of the new measures that will be taken is linked to the involvement of residents who will have to sort their waste ever more and better in order to limit the increase in their TEOM.
