Towards a Bright and Open Future: The Move towards Equal Opportunities in Professional Counter-Strike

Counter-Strike works best when teams compete on equal terms, and their success is determined only by their playing skills.

Over the past few years, we have seen the professional Counter-Strike scene move away from this principle. The ecosystem is gradually becoming less open, and access to competition at the highest level is increasingly limited to business relationships.

We believe that Counter-Strike should be an open sport. Therefore, we are going to add new requirements for holding large-scale competitions. The details are still being discussed, but here are the key points: Tournament organizers will no longer have unique business relationships or other conflicts of interest with teams participating in their events.

Our ranking system and open qualifiers will be used to determine which teams will be invited to the tournaments.

Any compensation for tournament participants – prize pool or otherwise – will be made public and will be determined by objective criteria that can be verified by the community.

As tournament organizers have existing long-term commitments, these requirements will come into effect from 2025. The transition period will be fraught with some difficulties, but we are committed to the long-term development of Counter-Strike as a sport and look forward to its bright and open future.
