London (CNN) More than 100 tourists, including those visiting British mystery writer Agatha Christie’s Greenway villa, were stranded for several hours after a fallen tree blocked the road.
Greenway is located in the countryside of Devon in the South West of England.
About 100 people were stranded on the premises after a woman who was visiting the site contacted the local paper on the 14th.
The National Trust, a British heritage building conservation group, posted a notice on its website that stormy weather had caused a large tree to fall on the road leading to Greenway. He said he was doing everything in his power to accommodate visitors, staff and volunteers who were unable to leave.
The tourists spent their time drinking tea, which was provided free of charge by the villa, and playing a game of “croquet,” in which they hit wooden balls on the lawn, according to the woman who contacted them.
According to the National Trust, Christie himself used to play croquet in Greenway’s gardens and introduce some of his latest creations in conversations with guests.
This villa is also known as the setting for Christie’s work “The Mistakes of the Dead”.
On social media, there were a series of posts reminiscent of his representative work “And Then There Were None,” in which 10 men and women were invited to a mansion on a solitary island in Devon and killed one by one. There were also tweets that counted down to “99, 98, 97” and warned tourists to “check safety in pairs right now.”
In fact, the road was restored by the work of local rescue teams, and everyone was evacuated the same night.
However, the National Trust said on Wednesday it expected Greenway to remain closed due to heavy storm damage.
